Melvita Rose and Orange Blossom Floral Water Review

The first time I came across the term floral water facial toner is through Melvita back in June, when they took part in the Latest in Beauty CEW Discovery Box. I initially thought that this product was meant for anti-aging but later found through testing, that it works well for all skin conditions. It’s so light and fresh, and is a must-have on a hot day (although this does not apply anymore). I am a big fan of spritz toners partially because I’m lazy and… ok, there’s no “and”. I almost forgot that I had these until a recent beauty clean up and I must say that they’ve become my new found love.

I have two samples here: damask rose and orange blossom. Other than the difference in smell I don’t think they work differently on fundamental basis. Melvita states that the Orange Blossom Floral Water is meant to have softening effects whilst the Damask Rose Floral Water is hydrating, but to be honest, I can’t really tell.

Melvita Damask Rose Floral Water
(sample size: 28ml, full size: £16/200ml)

Product Description:

Certified organic and fair trade (EFT attested), our floral water is obtained by steam distillation of fresh Rosa damascena petals. Our unique extraction method enables us to obtain a floral water that is particularly rich in active ingredients, making it a naturally powerful formula. With its fresh, delicate scent, our floral water helps to combat dehydration and regenerate the skin.

My View:

(Smell): Simple! A strong smell of roses. However, I did not feel any lingering freshness after application because it’s got the scent of old roses… like the ones you’ve kept in your vase for a few days. The smell is alright though, otherwise I wouldn’t be using it.

Melvita Orange Blossom Floral
Water (sample size: 28ml, full size: £16/200ml)

Product Description:

Orange blossom floral water is obtained by distillation of organically grown, fresh Citrus aurantium amara leaves. Naturally rich in active ingredients, it has calming, softening and refreshing properties, and is suitable for all skin types.

My View:

(Smell): Nope, it does not smell exactly like oranges! Well, I suppose it’s got a similar smell to an orange, but a lot sweeter and less citric. Again, it wasn’t the freshest smelling “water” in the beauty world.

(Texture for both): these are water based toners, hence floral water. It pretty much has the texture of water, neither lighter nor heavier.  However (here we go again), I didn’t like the spray because the “water” came out too quick and sharp rather than diffusing
nicely across my whole face. I often spray it onto a cotton wool pad before application, but this method knocks out the whole purpose of a “spray” toner.

(Result for both): I like using it whenever my face feels hot and inflamed due to the weather because it’s rather cooling. I also use it as a toner in the evenings because it’s calming and moisturising. As I mentioned above, other than the smell, I don’t notice any difference between the two.
